From Maid of Honor to the Highest Honor: A Journey in Public Speaking

It all begins with an idea.

Two years ago, I began exploring public speaking. What started as a professional development goal quickly became something more. I discovered that finding and using my voice could transform not only how I communicate, but how I show up in the world—confidently, clearly, and authentically. From meetings and presentations to speaking for technology conferences in Florida I’ve learned to connect with people and learned about technology.

None of this would have been possible without the mentorship of Barkha Herman. Barkha, thank you for guiding me, challenging me, and giving me the tools to become a better speaker and communicator. Your impact on my growth has been profound, and I’m endlessly grateful.

In just two weeks, I’ll be delivering a toast at my best friend’s wedding in Finland. A few years ago, if you had told me I’d be giving a wedding speech in two languages—one I speak and one I don’t—I would’ve laughed in disbelief. And yet, here I am, preparing to stand beside my best friend Simi as her maid of honor, giving a speech in both English and Finnish at her wedding.

This moment feels surreal—not just because of the honor of the role, but because of the journey that brought me here

To Simi, thank you for trusting me with this role. I can’t wait to stand beside you and celebrate your love story. Giving this speech will be one of the greatest honors of my life—not just because of what it means to you, but because of what it has meant to me.

Here’s to love, friendship, and the power of using your voice—even when it shakes, and even when it’s in a language you’re still learning.
